Patient Services
At the EDBD-FPA, sometimes it may become necessary to call in other specialists to help us treat a patient’s condition. Depending on the diagnosis and on individual needs, a patient may meet with a coordinated team of physicians and other healthcare professionals. Routine access to so many qualified professionals is one of the major benefits of seeking specialized healthcare in a large multidisciplinary center like The Mount Sinai Medical Center.
Patients requiring hospitalization for hormone-related treatment are admitted to The Mount Sinai Hospital where physicians from the EDBD-FPA work with multidisciplinary treatment teams to ensure that our patients’ medical, nutritional, and psychological needs are met during their hospital stay as well as after discharge.
Another area of specialization in our FPA is the diagnosis and treatment of male and female hormone imbalances. Our FPA physicians are recognized for their expertise in diagnosing and treating these imbalances and their consequences.
Our reproductive endocrinologists work closely with specialists in Mount Sinai's departments of urology, gynecology, and surgery to offer comprehensive, team-based treatment for infertility, sexual dysfunction, and menopause. They also manage related conditions including acne, hair loss, hirsutism (excessive growth of hair, especially in women), and polycystic ovary syndrome.
Specialists in medical nutrition are also available to consult on dietary needs and to work with severely obese patients who might benefit from dietary and medication-assistance through the Weight Management Program (link to Weight Management Program) weight management. These specialists often work collaboratively with colleagues in the surgical weight loss program, which makes the coordination of care seamless for their patients.
On-site diagnostic capabilities include state-of-the-art bone densitometry for thorough and rapid evaluation of osteoporosis. Following diagnosis, comprehensive management of osteoporosis and related calcium and metabolic bone diseases is available.
All types of endocrine adrenal disorders are treated, including under- and overactivity of the glands, as well as tumors. The adrenal gland has complex functions, including making cortisol, adrenaline, sex hormones, and hormones necessary for fluid and electrolyte balance.
Physicians from the Endocrine, Diabetes, and Bone Faculty Practice Associates offer full diagnostic workup and treatment of pituitary tumors and disorders, such as Cushing's disease, acromegaly, and pituitary hypofunction.
Mount Sinai Medical Center ranks among the nation’s best hospitals for Diabetes & Endocrinology in the 2011-2012 “Best Hospitals” issue of U.S. News & World Report. Read more
