Liver Clinical Trials
As members of the faculty of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, the doctors of Liver Diseases Faculty Practice Associates are dedicated researchers, as well as clinicians. Basic and clinical research is a major part of our professional lives.
Mount Sinai led clinical trials include all of the following:
- investigations of new antiviral drugs to treat chronic hepatitis B and C
- new approaches to the treatment of liver cancer
- new methods for diagnosing liver fibrosis (scarring) without the need for liver biopsy
- better methods for defining the pathology of biliary cirrhosis
- investigations of experimental medications and techniques to treat fibrosis
- new strategies to treat nonalcoholic fatty liver disease
- new techniques and approaches to improving surgical outcomes
- quality of life enhancements for transplant recipients
Management of viral hepatitis in liver and/or kidney transplant patients is also a major area of our research, as well as treatment of viral hepatitis in patients who also have HIV infection.
Our research is enhanced by the quality of the academic environment at Mount Sinai, our vast experience in treating patients with liver disease, and our day to day interactions with our colleagues in other specialties within the Medical Center.
