About Us

The need for enhancing the understanding of the important role of the prostate in men's health was the impetus for the establishment of the Barbara and Maurice Deane Prostate Health and Research Center within the Department of Urology at Mount Sinai. Representing an innovative concept in men's health, the Center brings together multiple disciplines and support services under one roof to provide comprehensive, state-of-the-art assessment and treatment for all medical conditions involving the prostate. The guiding principle of the Deane Center is to foster synergies between patient care, scientific research and community education and screening programs.

Through increasing public education and awareness, more men are now seeking medical attention or advice for the various diseases associated with the prostate. Deane Center physicians treat the broad spectrum of prostate conditions, including prostatitis, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and prostate cancer. They offer patients a comprehensive array of state-of-the-art treatment options, including minimally invasive prostatectomy with the DaVinciĀ® robotic surgical system and laser and microwave surgery for BPH performed on an outpatient basis. To inform and empower newly diagnosed prostate cancer patients, the Prostate Interactive Education System (PIES) is available on site at the Deane Center or via the Mount Sinai Website. PIES is an innovative interactive education resource designed to help patients weigh treatment options and make informed decisions. At the Deane Center, every effort has been made to create a warm, welcoming environment, where patients and family members can avail themselves of multidisciplinary medical expertise and feel confident that diagnostic and treatment plans are customized to their specific needs.

Deane Center physicians are actively engaged in laboratory research and clinical trials that offer hope for men suffering from prostate cancer today and in the future. The Center also serves as a catalyst within Mount Sinai to support translational research (basic scientific research with direct clinical application) by investigators that will, hopefully, one day yield new approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of prostate disease.
