David B. Samadi, M.D., is the Chief of Robotics and Minimal Invasive Surgery at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. He is one of the very few urologic surgeons who are trained both in oncology and robotic surgery in the United States. He performed the first robotic prostate cancer surgery at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. To date, Dr. Samadi has performed well over 3800 robotic prostate surgeries and the results are very pleasing for his patients.

Dr. Samadi is a board certified urologist and a specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of urologic diseases, kidney cancer, bladder cancer, and prostate cancer. He is a leader in prostate cancer treatment and robotic prostate surgery.

    Robotic Surgery Expertise

Dr. Samadi is one of few surgeons in the New York City area and one of only five surgeons in New York State qualified to perform a robotic prostatectomy, and he uses the da Vinci surgery system.

He completed his postgraduate training in general surgery at Montefiore Medical Center and in urology at Albert Einstein School of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center. He went on to do an oncology fellowship in urology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and a robotic surgery fellowship at Henri Mondor Hospital Creteil in France under the mentorship of Professor Claud Abbou.

Dr. Samadi is a member of the American Urologic Association and the American Medical Association.

    In the News
Dr. Samadi and his work with Robotic Prostate Surgery have been profiled on all major TV news and radio stations in New York. He has been offered many opportunities to participate in his own radio show to help people understand how prostate cancer, caught early is treatable and how to educate people on being more in tune with their bodies to stay healthy.

Industry Relationships

Physicians and scientists on the faculty of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai often interact with pharmaceutical, device and biotechnology companies to improve patient care, develop new therapies and achieve scientific breakthroughs. In order to promote an ethical and transparent environment for conducting research, providing clinical care and teaching, Mount Sinai requires that salaried faculty inform the School of their relationships with such companies.

Dr. Samadi did not report having any of the following types of financial relationships with industry during 2012 and/or 2013: consulting, scientific advisory board, industry-sponsored lectures, service on Board of Directors, participation on industry-sponsored committees, equity ownership valued at greater than 5% of a publicly traded company or any value in a privately held company. Please note that this information may differ from information posted on corporate sites due to timing or classification differences.

Mount Sinai's faculty policies relating to faculty collaboration with industry are posted on our website at http://icahn.mssm.edu/about-us/services-and-resources/faculty-resources/handbooks-and-policies/faculty-handbook. Patients may wish to ask their physician about the activities they perform for companies.
