Biography
- Dr. Maria Bun-Ching Lee is the Medical Director of the Chelsea-Village House Call Program (CVHCP) of Mount Sinai. The program serves chronically ill homebound elders in Manhattan, below 59th Street.
The former Saint Vincent's Chelsea-Village Program was founded in 1973. Since Saint Vincent's closure in May 2010, many of the program's staff members signed on with Mount Sinai Hospital. The CVHCP is now affiliated with the Mount Sinai Visiting Doctors Program (the largest academic home visit program in the nation) which serves Manhattan above 59th Street. CVHCP is known for it's interdisciplinary team approach, utilizing bilingual teams of doctors, nurses, and social workers.
Dr. Lee has been making house calls to homebound elders since 1995, initially during residency training (St. Vincent's Int. Medicine - Adult Primary Care Track) and later as faculty (1999-2010). Her interests include house call medicine, and cross-cultural issues relating to health and end-of-life care. She is an advocate for improving health care access for ethnic minorities.
Frequent collaboration with local home hospices to enhance care for her terminally ill homebound monolingual patients has inspired her to raise awareness amongst health care providers to improve end-of-life care for ethnic minorities.
